The narrative of Greek colonization in southern Italy: settlers and native people (Pithecusae, Cuma, Metapont, Ferrandina)

The aim of these lectures is to bring the local academic community into closer contact with an important but less known part of Greek colonization in the West, especially in Magna Graecia. Through the presentation of the results of current archaeological research at three important sites in Southern Italy, aspects of colonization are explored through the different narratives of Greek settlers and native populations.

The workshop will also explore ways of closer cooperation between the departments of the University of Crete, Naples, and Basilicata through joint European projects, in order to construct a solid bridge of communication and education among these academic communities.
