The Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies - Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IMS-FORTH), announces a Post-Doc scholarship for scholars that want to participate in the implementation of the project "DynByzCrete- Recapturing the Dynamics of the Early Byzantine Settlements in Crete: Old problems - New Interpretations through an Interdisciplinary Approach". The project is carried out under the framework of the Operational Programme "EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING" (NSRF 2007-2013) and specifically the action "ARISTEIA ΙΙ".

Research objectives

The research objectives of the position include: the historical and archaeological data retrieval concerning the early Byzantine cities and settlements in Crete, the contribution in digitizing mapping material, the participation in a number of fieldwork activities in Crete, the active participation in the publications of the project's results in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. Candidates need to have a strong motivation and be able to collaborate and interact constructively within an international team with various disciplines.

 

Necessary Requirements:

1. PhD in Archaeology specialized in archaeology/topography of Crete or the fortifications.

2. Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences.

3. Participation in a number of research projects and archaeological researches in Crete.

4. Very good knowledge of English and French.

 

Location: Rethymno, Crete, Greece

 

Contract duration: The duration of the post is 12 months. We should emphasize that the goal of the Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, IMS-FORTH is to invest in long-term collaborations with promising scientists and scholars that will participate in future funded projects. The successful candidate is expected to start by May 1st, 2014 the latest.
