Franco Luciani
Franco Luciani is Assistant Professor (Ricercatore) of Roman History at the Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo since January 2022. He has previously been Lecturer in Ancient History at Newcastle University (2018-2020). He held a PhD in Ancient History and Archaeology at the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia (2011). He was Postdoctoral Fellow at the Université de Neuchâtel (2010-11), the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia and the Università degli Studi di Trento (2012-2016), and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at Newcastle University (2016-2018).
He is a specialist in Roman History and Latin Epigraphy, with particular attention to the social and administrative history of the Roman world in the Republican and Imperial periods. He works on slavery in the Roman World, but also on the management of the Italian territory. Recent publications include his monograph Slaves of the People. A Political and Social History of Roman Public Slavery, Stuttgart: Franz Steiner Verlag, 2022.
