The project constitutes a National Development Action (Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship, NSRF 2007-2013).
The project reflects one of the current development plans of FORTH. 6 Institutes of FORTH collaborate towards an integrated interdisciplinary approach for the development and the best use of innovative technologies in the domain of Cultural Heritage. The main focus of the project is towards the research and development of tools, methods, techniques, analyses for the diagnosis, archiving, study, protection, management and promotion of cultural heritage monuments.
There are 3 axes serving as the test bed of the project:
- Technologies of mapping and restoration.
- Intangible cultural content (archives, DB).
- Material culture (artifacts, monuments, sites).
The Laboratory of Geophysical - Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment (GeoSat ReSeArch) of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies participates in the particular project targeting towards the development of an Integrated System of Mapping Archaeological Sites emphasizing the usage of space in antiquity. The Lab will work towards the creation of a Protocol for the application of an integrated system for the mapping of the cultural environment to be applied in sites of various chronological phases and environmental conditions. This Guide of Best Practice can be used for the application of different remote sensing approaches for the maximization of information for the diachronic usage and modification of space.
