Post Doc Researcher with PhD in Applied Geophysics with emphasis in EM or magnetic or resistivity methods
The Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies - Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IMS-FORTH) announces a Post-Doc scholarship for scholars that want to participate in the implementation of the project POLITEIA of Action KRIPIS of the General Secretary for Research and Tehcnology. The project deals with the Culture and Technology, and the particular Post-Doc will be employed for the materialization of the Work Package 2 (Development of an integrated mapping system of archaeological sites with emphasis in the usage of space).
Research objectives
The research objectives of the post include: the development of tomographic inversion algorithms for the processing of resistivity or EM or magnetic data, the systematic geophysical survey of archaeological sites (Greece, Cyprus, etc), the establishment of communication and development of navigation and processing software for the geophysical units using palms or portable PCs and DGPS units, the delivery of lectures in international seminars that will be organized by IMS-FORTH, the active participation in the publications of the project's results in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. Candidates need to have a strong stimulus and be able to collaborate and interact constructively within an international team with various disciplines.
Necessary Requirements:
1. PhD in Applied Geophysics with emphasis in Electrical Methods with emphasis in EM or magnetic or resistivity methods.
2. Significant experience in the development of numerical modeling and inversion resistivity or EM or magnetic algorithms.
3. Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences.
4. Participation in a number of research projects of applied geophysical prospection methods.
5. Experience with experimental laboratory devices (e.g tomographic experiments in tanks etc)
6. Experience in programming (e.g. MATLAB) and data processing/interpretation with tomographic softwares (RES2DINV. RES3DINV, DC_2DPRO, DC_3DPRO etc)
7. Very good knowledge of English.
Location: Rethymno, Crete, Greece
Contract duration / Salary: The duration of the post is 6 months with monthly gross salary 1900 Euro. We should emphasize that the goal of the Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, IMS-FORTH is to invest in long-term collaborations with promising scientists and scholars that they will participate in future funded projects. The successful candidate is expected to start by April 1st, 2015.

Β) The results of the review and evaluation procedure will be published on the web page of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (http://www.ims.forth.gr).
