Petros Kastrinakis

Petros Kastrinakis is a Post-doc researcher in history. He holds a PhD in History at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete in Rethymno with the topic “An Ottoman port in the 19th century: The case of Chania”. He graduated from the same department and received his master's degree in Ottoman history from the same department and university in collaboration with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies. He has received several scholarships and has worked for several years on research projects at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies and at other universities such as Stanford University. His dissertation took place under the ERC Starting Grant SeaLit (Seafaring Lives in Transition) research project in the Institute for Mediterranean Studies, and later was funded by State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). He has participated in various conferences in Greece and abroad (USA, South Korea, Portugal). His main interests are the study of ports and islands, late Ottoman history, maritime history, urban history and public health history.
