Nikos Potamianos

Nikos Potamianos was born in Athens in 1971. He has studied history in the departments of History and Archaeology of the Universities of Athens and Crete; in the latter he has earned his Phd. In 2016 he was a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology of the University of Thessaly. In 2016 and 2017 he has taught in the Departments of Political Science and of History and Archaeology in the University of Crete. In 2018 he began to work in the Institute for Mediterranean Studies – FORTH as an assistant researcher, and in 2022 became associate researcher. He is member of the academic board and reader in the journal Ta Istorika, and has been scientific collaborator in the Small Enterprises' Institute of the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (IME-GSEVEE). His books include Oi Noikokyraioi. Shopkeepers and master artisans in Athens 1880-1925 (Cretan University Press 2015); Noble pachyderms and suffering workers. Topical histories from the beginnings of the 20th century (Assini editions 2016); GSEVEE (Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants): 100 years of history. Small business and unionism in Greece 1919-2019 (Small Enterprises' Institute of GSEVEE 2019); ‘Tis anaideias theamata’. A social history of carnival in Athens 1800-1940 (Cretan University Press 2020); and the children's history book Stories I told my daughter about prehistory (Kedros editions). The books he has (co)edited include Working in the spectacle industry. Theatre and cinema in Greece, 19th-20th c. (2020, with Eliza Anna Delveroudi); Labour History in the Semi-periphery. Southern Europe, 19th-20th centuries (2021, with Leda Papastefanaki); Versions of moral economy. Historical and theoretical studies (2021); and the special issue of the journal Τα Ιστορικά about “Histories of modern and contemporary Greece” (2022).
