The project aimed at classifying and cataloguing the archival material of the Ottoman Archive of Chania (Ottoman, Greek, bilingual registers and documents - dating mostly from the second half of the 19th century). Approximately 3.500 registers were classified and a similar number of cards were compiled with a description of each. Moreover, 530 registers were selected to be photographed on 77 microfilms. Copies of 21 of these microfilms were given to the Historical Archive of Chania. The classified registers and their descriptions were initially entered in a database using the semantic system "Kleio", which was developed by the Institute of Computer Science, FORTH.
The catalogue of the registers is now available online through Digital Crete: http://digitalcrete.ims.forth.gr
