Geophysical and Geoarchaeological Project at Priniatikos Pyrgos and within the Istron Area, Mirabello, Eastern Crete
2002-2005
A Geophysical and Geoarchaeological Project at Priniatikos Pyrgos and within the Istron Area, Mirabello, Eastern Crete
This project consists of
(1) remote sensing on and near the site of Priniatikos Pyrgos in order to determine the nature, condition, and extent of the primary Bronze Age harbor town of the Vrokastro region;
(2) investigation of the geology and geomorphology of the coastal zone and coastal valleys, in order to provide a topographical framework for Priniatikos Pyrgos and other ancient settlements;
(3) investigation of local industries involved in the economic development of the region, through exploration of workshops and regional sources of raw materials. These industrial activities have been brought to light through remote sensing and observations made during fieldwork, 2002 and 2003.
