Angelos Aletras

Angelos Aletras (Ph.D.) is a film theorist and director. He graduated from the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens and then studied at the Film and Media Production Department of Sheffield Hallam University. He defended his Ph.D. thesis on the cinema of Andrei Tarkovsky at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens. His monograph Uncanny Spaces. Poetics of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Cinema (2020) has been published by Nissos Academic Publishing. He has taught film courses at the postgraduate program "Cultural and Cinema Studies" of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and at the Department of Philology of the University of Crete. Since 2009 he has also been teaching film at IVT AKMI and Metropolitan College. His main research interests revolve around film aesthetics and theoretical approaches to space with emphasis on the analysis of its forms of representation and signification. He has directed short films, documentaries, music videos and commercials.
